The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, commonly known as the R370 grant, is a temporary social assistance measure introduced by the South African government to support unemployed citizens who have no other means of support.
Originally introduced as the COVID-19 SRD grant in 2020, it was extended and is now processed monthly for eligible applicants. The grant provides R370 per month to help cover basic living expenses.
The SRD grant is administered by SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) and is subject to monthly means testing to ensure only eligible applicants receive the benefit.
